Cronuts

I was by the Dominique Ansel Bakery after an early morning meeting and found the line to be fairly short so I gave in and got a cronut (after a mere hour waiting in line).  I have to say that it was worth it.  The texture and taste and both fabulous.  I found that 1/4 to a 1/2 cronut per person is enough as it's pretty rich.

Drink Like a Meal II

From The Smoke Joint.  A little more substantial and more intimidating then the last Bloody Mary post.

Because in the East Village, imbibing is the best way to consume a meal.

5 Pointz

If you've ever taken the LIE to or from Midtown to either LaGuardia or Kennedy airport then chances are that you've seen 5 Poitz. This cultural institution in Long Island City, a home for graffiti artists, will be torn down this winter by a real estate developer.  I went to capture some images earlier this fall and was so glad that I did as artists recently painted the building white prior to demolition.

Apparently, everything is better with bacon

Even a film festival.  I spotted this marquee at the Sunshine Theater on Houston.  I thought it must be a joke, but it turns out that it was a real event:

Banksy sighting

I was excited to see this image painted into a concrete block near a construction site on 3rd Ave.  I figured it was created by some bored Cooper Union student.  Turns out it was part of Banky's residency in NYC.

The British graffiti artist is doing one installation a day for the month of October.

Take that Cronuts

I'm not waiting in line starting at 6am (the recommended time) to get a Cronut when I can get a M&M, chocolate covered rice crispy bar or a donut from my beloved Donut Planet on Grand St.

For those who aren't aware of the most sought after dessert in NYC:

Always held the Monday of Labor Day.  This was my first year attending and despite the rain, the streets were packed.

Subways of the World

From the Graphic Design display at the Cooper Union student end of the year exhibit SHOW UP

Full Image--Subways of the World

This close up (which you can see even better if you click on the image) shows the amount of subway tracks found in major cities around the world. By comparison, the huge circle in the full image above is the amount in NYC subway system.
